Our story began with Jenice Jones.
Jenice Jones, PhD, is a CMII Mental health specialist, minister, mentor, transformational coach, and social scientist. She’s a unique example of resilience in the face of adversity. Born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, she spent the early years of her life thriving in private school, then attending Booker T. Washington High School as a graduate of the Class of 1983. After 13 years of marriage to her high school sweetheart, Jenice became a single mother of two amazing daughters in a place of despair and hopelessness. She was in a long-term relationship with a husband addicted to crack cocaine. She discovered that those years of experience had riddled her with undeniable trauma, coupled with depression and low esteem. However, Jenice managed to rise to the level of her calling and decided that it was time to live.
Through her establishing a tribe of support, weekly treatment, and deciding to allow life's pain to propel her to pursue purpose, Jenice went back to school to complete her education with a degree in Bachelor of Arts-Multidisciplinary Studies, with an emphasis in Organizational Operations and a minor in Political Science from the University of Oklahoma-Tulsa. Jenice has since obtained her Master in Human Relations from the University of Oklahoma-Tulsa, emphasizing Social Justice and Change. Today, Jenice has earned her PhD in Public Policy and Administration, specializing in law from Walden University.
In 2009, Jenice founded and became the President & CEO of Just The Beginning Inc., a non-profit 501 c(3) organization equipped to serve system-impacted women in Oklahoma. Just The Beginning assists women facing prison through diversion and those being released from prison in the reentry program. Just The Beginning is committed to servicing an ongoing and holistic model focused on evidence-based treatment of mental, physical, spiritual, and emotional healing. Just The Beginning aspires to build productive and successful women of high esteem who positively impact their families & communities.
Dr. Jones has dedicated her work to understanding the intersections of policy, justice, and the needs of system-impacted individuals. Her academic journey has strengthened her commitment to advocating for meaningful policy improvements that foster pathways to success for individuals affected by the justice system. Dr. Jones is passionate about contributing to advancements in policy that promote fairness, rehabilitation, and opportunities for empowerment, ensuring that all individuals, regardless of their background, can thrive.
Dr. Jones has actively participated in the Oklahomans for Criminal Justice Reform and is an active member of the National Association of Blacks in Criminal Justice.
